ATHENS, Ga. — The seventh ranked LSU Tiger softball team will complete a 10-day Spring Break trip this weekend with a three game Southeastern Conference series against the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens.

“This is a crucial series for us,” said head coach Yvette Girouard. “We need to play our game, and if we do, we will be fine.”

The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. and a single game on Sunday also at 1 p.m. The LSU Sports Network will broadcast the games on 107.3 FM in Baton Rouge and over the internet at www.LSUsports.net.

The Tigers are 9-0 against the Bulldogs all-time after sweeping a doubleheader in Athens last season. Pitcher Ashley Lewis fanned eight Bulldogs while only allowing two hits in the Tigers’ 4-2 win in game one.

In game two of the double header in 2000, the LSU bats pounded 10 hits off the Georgia pitchers for the 7-0 shutout. Former-Tiger Tara Asbill hit her 10th home run of the season to lead LSU with two RBI.

LSU enters the weekend with a record of 27-6 overall and 7-2 in the SEC. The Tigers recently swept a double header with Coastal Carolina on Wednesday in Myrtle Beach. Lewis pitched her first no-hitter of the season in the Tigers’ 4-0 shutout of the Chanticleers, and the Tigers pounded 15 hits in the 12-2 six inning win.

The Tiger pitchers boast a combined ERA of 0.98. Lewis leads the team with an ERA of 0.87, while junior Britni Sneed was named the NFCA Division I player of the week with an ERA of 0.98. Sneed leads the LSU arsenal with 181 strikeouts in 114 innings of work.

LSU’s offense is led by seniors Stephanie Hastings and Dee Douglas who both have a batting average of .356. Douglas leads the Tigers with 20 stolen bases as Hastings has a team-high 37 hits.

The Georgia Bulldogs enter the contest with LSU with a record of 20-19 overall and 2-11 in the SEC. The Bulldogs recently dropped two SEC games to South Carolina on Wednesday, with Thursday’s game being rained out.

After the completion of the road trip, the Tigers will return home for a mid-week SEC series against Arkansas on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday’s doubleheader will begin at 5:30 p.m., and Wednesday’s game will start at 6:30 p.m. LSU will then host the fourth ranked Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday and Sunday.
