Sneed Named National Pitcher of the Week

BATON ROUGE — LSU All-American pitcher Britni Sneed was honored as the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I Player of the Week for March 19-25 following a stellar performance against South Carolina over the weekend.

“Britni is certainly deserving of this honor,” said head coach Yvette Girouard. “She is the perfect example of a coach’s dream. She is self motivated and a highly disciplined athlete. This great honor is a by product of her hard work.”

Sneed, a junior from Houston, Texas, led the Tigers to two Southeastern Conference wins over the then-No. 17 ranked Lady Gamecocks last week, advancing her record to 16-4, 6-0 in the SEC. In the two games against South Carolina, she gave up only four hits and no earned runs in 14 innings to earn an ERA of 0.00 for the week. Sneed sat down 17 batters, seven of which were caught looking.

Leading the Tiger pitching arsenal, Sneed has not allowed an earned run in over 28 innings of play for an overall ERA of 0.98. The Tiger pitching staff has a combined ERA of 1.04. She also leads the team with an SEC ERA of 0.35. Sneed leads the Tigers with 181 strikeouts for the season.

Sneed has been honored as both the SEC pitcher of the week and the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s player of the week on two different occasions this season. She was named the NFCA player of the week last year during the 2000 season.

Sneed and the Tigers face the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina on Wednesday at 2 p.m. LSU will face Georgia in a three game SEC series on Saturday and Sunday in Athens.
