Sneed Named LSWA Softball Player of the Week

BATON ROUGE — LSU hurler Britni Sneed and McNeese State pitcher Chris Howay were honored Monday by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association for their performances during the past week.

Sneed earned LSWA Softball Player-of-the-Week honors in a vote of softball SIDs across the state for the second time in three weeks after her performance last week for the Tigers. The junior from Houston, Texas, allowed four hits in 14 innings of action against No. 17 South Carolina, striking out 17 batters in the process. Sneed, who has not allowed an earned run in over 28 innings of play, led the Tigers to two wins over the week to improve her record to 16-4 on the year and 6-0 in the SEC. On the season, Sneed leads the Tigers with an 0.98 earned run average and 181 strikeouts.

Howay, a senior from New Westminster, B.C., was named LSWA Baseball Player-of-the-Week by a panel of voters across the state after he tossed the fourth no-hitter in McNeese State history in a 20-0 Southland Conference victory over Sam Houston State. Recording MSU’s first no-hitter since Chuck Richardson no-hit Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1973, Howay faced the minimum of 21 batters in the seven-inning contest. He struck out four batters and walked one batter who was later retired in a double play.
