BATON ROUGE — Ronetta Smith of the seventh-ranked LSU women’s track and field team has been named the Southeastern Conference Women’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week following her performance in the Lady Tigers’ dual meet at Southern California last weekend.
Smith posted the fastest time in the nation in the 400-meter dash so far this season, clocking an NCAA automatic time of 52.23 to break USC’s Cromwell Field stadium mark in the process. Smith later returned and anchored the Lady Tigers to their fastest time of the season in the 4×400-meter relay, running a 52.0 anchor leg.
Smith’s time in the 400-meter dash was the sixth fastest in school history.
The two-time All-American ranks third all-time on the Tigers’ all-time indoor list in the 400-meter dash and finished fourth at the recently completed NCAA Indoor Championships.
