WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The 24th-ranked LSU women’s tennis team is set to close out its three-match road trip on Wednesday, as the Lady Tigers invade West Lafayette, Ind., for a match with the Purdue Boilermakers.
“We’ve had a pretty rough time on the road these past two matches, but a win tomorrow would really give us a big boost,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “Purdue has a very talented team this season, and it is going to be tough task to beat them on their home courts. We just need to go out there and play with some confidence and consistency.”
LSU enters Wednesday’s non-conference duel looking to end a three-match losing streak. The Lady Tigers have dropped their previous three contests to ninth-ranked Tennessee (6-1), No. 2 Georgia (5-1) and 25th-ranked Kentucky (6-1) in Southeastern Conference match-ups. LSU owns a 10-6 overall record on the season and a 2-5 mark against conference opponents.
The Boilermakers head into the contest with an overall record of 3-10 and a four-match losing streak. Purdue recorded losses in its past four matches to 12th-ranked Northwestern (7-0), Illinois (6-1), No. 11 California (7-0) and San Diego State (6-1). The Boilermakers’ three victories of the season came against Utah, Miami (Ohio) and Southern Methodist.
Last season, in the first meeting between the schools, the Lady Tigers defeated Purdue, 7-2, at home in the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium. The win marked LSU’s 11th victory of the season.
Bruna Colosio, the Lady Tigers’ 23rd-ranked junior from Cascaval, Brazil, looks to extend her eight-match winning streak. She owns an 18-2 overall record in singles play and a 12-1 mark in dual matches. In last season’s match, Colosio recorded her 28th victory against Purdue as she defeated the Boilermakers’ Jennifer Embry, 6-3, 6-1, on court No. 1.
In doubles play, LSU’s 18th-ranked combination of Colosio and Rocio Fantilli has accumulated a dual-match record of 11-3 this season. The Lady Tigers’ No. 1 doubles team has notched four wins against ranked opponents and has clinched three of LSU’s seven doubles points.
