BATON ROUGE — Bruna Colosio, LSU’s 23rd-ranked women’s tennis player from Cascaval, Brazil, moved up 20 spots in the national singles rankings on Friday, as the most-recent WingspanBank.com Collegiate Tennis Rankings were released.
“Bruna has done an awesome job for our team this season,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “Despite having a slight injury to her serving shoulder, she is playing some of her best tennis right now and is beating some very tough competition. She is definitely very talented in both singles and doubles play, and she deserves the recognition.”
Colosio has helped lead the Lady Tigers to a 10-5 overall record this season and a national ranking of No. 24. LSU’s junior No. 1 singles player has accumulated an 11-1 dual-match record this spring and an overall mark of 17-2. Colosio in undefeated against Southeastern Conference opponents this season and has amassed a 5-0 record versus conference adversaries. She also leads the team with four match-clinching points and has earned a 7-1 mark versus ranked opponents.
In Friday’s doubles rankings, LSU’s combination of Colosio and Rocio Fantilli notched the nation’s No. 18 position. The pair improved two positions from the No. 20 spot in the previous ranking. The Lady Tiger tandem owns an overall record of 11-2 on the season and has defeated four ranked opponents, including Texas A&M’s ninth-ranked team of Hedburg and Roland.
The 24th-ranked LSU women’s tennis team will next be in action on Sunday at 11 a.m., as the Lady Tigers face the Kentucky Lady Wildcats in Lexington, Ky.
