BATON ROUGE — LSU basketball great “Pistol” Pete Maravich will be featured Friday on ESPN Classic in the channel’s Sports Century series airing at 7 and 10 p.m.
The Friday show will conclude a week of programs on basketball greats including Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Jerry West, Bill Walton and Maravich.
The Division I all-time leading scorer played at LSU from 1967-70 averaging 44.5 points for his senior season, 44.2 points for his three-year career and the all-time division point total of 3,667 points.
He would later be voted one of the 50 Greatest Players in the National Basketball Association.
Maravich would die of a heart attack at the age of 40 in 1988.
CBS Sports is also working on a show about Maravich that is scheduled to air on Sunday, April 1, from 3:30-5 p.m. Central time.
New Orleans native and talented singer/songwriter Harry Connick, Jr. will be the narrator for “Pistol Pete” The Life and Times of Pete Maravich.”
Among those featured in that documentary are Mike Ditka, who played under Press Maravich in high school and Jackie Maravich, Pete’s wife, who makes a very rare interview appearance in the show.
