BOYDS, Md. — The LSU soccer team defeated Loyola and Georgetown, 1-0 in each game, to claim the tournament championship at the KICKS Against Breast Cancer Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Tournament in Boyds, Md., over the weekend.
“We were excited to participate in such a meaningful event,” said head coach George Fotopoulos. “The girls were glad to help raise money for such a good cause. The team played really well this weekend and I think the overall win will help boost our confidence going into next season.”
Tiger goalie Bonnie Otillio had two shutouts to her name with the help of a solid defense. Otillio posted eight shutouts in 2000 with 86 saves and a 1.04 goals against average.
Forward Kara Dean scored the Tiger goal in the 1-0 win over Loyola. Dean was named the Louisiana Player of the Year after leading the Tigers with 15 goals and two assists for 32 points overall.
Melissa Shelton scored for the Tigers versus Georgetown to notch the second 1-0 win of the tournament. Shelton was fourth on the team statistically in 2000 with five goals and four assists for 14 points.
The Tigers continue spring practice to prepare for the opening of the Fall 2001 season.
