BATON ROUGE — University of New Orleans pitcher Tom Lipari, Tulane outfielder Michael Aubrey and LSU softball pitcher Britni Sneed have each earned Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player-of-the-Week honors for their performances during the past week.
Lipari, who was named LSWA Co-Baseball Player-of-the-Week, made his first-ever complete game a memorable one as he threw a no-hitter in a 3-0 victory against No. 20 Southern Miss on Saturday. The no-hitter by the Omaha, Neb., native was the first nine-inning gem by a UNO pitcher in school history and was the Privateer’s first since Darren Langlois tossed a seven-inning no-hitter in 1993. Lipari struck out four batters while walking five.
Aubrey, a freshman from Shreveport, was named LSWA Co-Baseball Player-of-the-Week after he hit .500 (8-for-16) on the week, including hitting for the cycle at No. 2 LSU with a career high five RBI. Five of his eight hits were multiple base hits and he recorded 11 RBI in four games.
Aubrey struck out once in 16 at bats and he added six runs and five walks. Against Seina, he was 3-for5 with a home run and four RBI.
Sneed, named the LSWA Softball Player-of-the-Week, went a perfect 4-0 with a 0.59 earned run average during the past week striking out 41 batters in 23 innings and giving up only nine hits. She led LSU to two SEC victories on the road at Florida, including a two-hit, 12-strikeout performance on Sunday. Sneed also matched her single-game record with 15 strikeouts against Northwestern State.
