Men’s and Women’s Tennis Teams Creep Up in Rankings

BATON ROUGE — Both the LSU men’s and women’s tennis teams moved up in the national rankings on Wednesday, as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association released the newest Wingspanbank.com tennis rankings.

The Tigers improved one position on Wednesday and now occupy the No. 16 position in the nation. The LSU men recorded a vital-Southeastern Conference win last week on the road against Arkansas to improve to an overall record of 8-2. The Tigers’ 4-3 victory over the Razorbacks marked the team’s third-straight win.

LSU’s women’s tennis team returned to the top 25 on Wednesday despite posting an even 1-1 record last week. The Lady Tigers moved up from the No. 26 spot after recording a 6-1 loss to seventh-ranked Vanderbilt and a 5-2 victory against Southern Methodist. The LSU women have accumulated an overall record of 9-3 on the season and a 2-2 mark versus SEC opponents.

The LSU men’s and women’s tennis teams will both be in action on Friday, March 16, in a double header as the 16th-ranked Tigers host Kentucky at 2 p.m., and then the 25th-ranked Lady Tigers face Tulsa at 5 p.m. Admission will be free to each of the matches and pizza will be provided by the LSU tennis department.
