BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Nicki Arnstad was named SEC Gymnast of the Week after winning three events in the Tigers’ convincing victory over Michigan State and New Hampshire.
The junior from Green Bay, Wis., posted victories on beam with a season high 9.90, on floor with a 9.95 and in the all-around with a career-high 39.375. Arnstad did all this just 16 days after having surgery on her right knee to repair a torn lateral meniscus.
Arnstad has won the floor in six of her seven meets this season and now has 10 titles overall on the year. Her score helped the Tigers to a season-high 196.950 in their victory this past Friday, matching the second highest score in school history.
Arnstad, the NCAA Region III champion on floor a year ago, will be among a short list of favorites for the SEC floor and all-around titles when the Tigers return to action on March 23 at the SEC Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
