Gymnastics Scores Season High on Senior Night

BATON ROUGE — The 18th-ranked LSU gymnastics team produced a season-high score of 196.950 capturing victories over No. 23 Michigan State (194.125) and New Hampshire (194.125) on Friday night at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

Junior Nicki Arnstad captured her third all-around title with a score of 39.375, a season-best, just two weeks after undergoing orthoscopic surgery.

She also captured the balance beam and the floor with respective scores of 9.900 and 9.950.

The Tigers (9-2, 3-2) captured every event on the evening including a season-high beam total of 49.125, bettering a 49.100 performance against Florida on Feb. 16. Junior Adrienne Couret produced her second consecutive 9.8 on the beam and added a career-high 9.9 on the vault.

LSU also tied a season-best mark of 49.500 on the floor with the help of senior Sharene Mamby’s 9.900 performance. Mamby also added a 9.900 on the floor in her final regular season meet in the PMAC after overcoming a ruptured Achilles tendon that kept her out of the 2000 season.

In addition, the Tigers’ honored senior Tricia Corbello tonight. The Louisiana native posted a career-high score of 9.700 on the bars bettering her mark of 9.650 set last season against the Spartans.

“Tonight was truly what we needed as far as the quality of performance and the positive energy that it was able to create for this team,” head coach D-D Breaux said. “Sharene and Tricia both did great tonight. They’re both leaders. They’re both great team people.”

LSU will take next week off before heading to Birmingham for the SEC Championships on March 23. The Tigers placed second a year ago with a team score 196.825.
