Lady Tigers Ranked Seventh in AP Preseason Poll

Ferdinand Nominated For Shooting Guard of the Year

BRISTOL, Conn. — LSU senior Marie Ferdinand one of three nominees for National Shooting Guard of the Year award, it was announced Thursday by ESPN the Magazine, which is giving out the award.

Ferdinand is nominated along side of Georgia’s Coco Miller and Southwest Missouri State’s Jackie Stiles, who broke the NCAA career scoring record this season.

The nomination is the latest in a barrage of awards and nominations for the Miami, Fla., native. In the past week, she has been named a unanimous first-team all-SEC selection by the coaches, a first-team all-SEC choice by the Associated Press and a second-team all-American by Women’s Basketball Journal. She was also been selected to play in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Challenge, which is an event that is for the nation’s top players and leads up to the Final Four.

Awards will be presented to the top men’s and women’s player at each position as well as to the men’s and women’s Coaches of the Year. An award will also be given to the “V Foundation” Comeback Player of the Year for a total of 15 awards.

The winners will be announced at the first-ever Capitol One Presents ESPN The Magazine’s College Basketball Awards, which will be held in Minneapolis, Minn.

ESPN will stage and televise the first annual awards show, which will honor the top performers in men’s and women’s college basketball on Wednesday, March 28 from 6-8 p.m. CT.

The ceremony is slated for Williams Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
