No Hitter Leads LSU to 13-0 Victory Over Houston

BATON ROUGE — LSU pitchers Britni Sneed and Sarah Meadors combined for a no-hitter and the Tiger bats had 13 hits to defeat the University of Houston Cougars, 13-0 in five innings.

“We had awesome hitting tonight which is what we have been expecting to happen,” said head coach Yvette Girouard. “The key is to continue the hitting throughout the weekend. Britni set the tone for us tonight and gave us the luxury to play several people.”

Eighth ranked LSU moves to 14-4 with the win. The Tigers will take on No. 21 Southern Miss Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Tigers led off the first inning with eight runs on five hits, batting through the LSU line-up. With bases loaded and no outs, Christy Connor hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score lead-off hitter Dee Douglas.

Designated hitter Erin Johnson singled to right field to send Aleshia Perry and Stephanie Hastings across home plate. Julie Wiese reached first on a fielder’s choice that let Trena Peel score from third. The catcher Jennifer Schuelke doubled down the left field line to send home Johnson. Second baseman Jill Crawford followed the double with a triple to left field to score Schuelke and Wiese. During her second at bat of the first inning, Perry had a second hit to pick up an RBI when Crawford scored to put LSU up 8-0.

LSU scored three runs in the bottom of the third to bring the score to 11-0.

Perry picked up her second RBI of the night with a sacrifice bunt to send home Crawford. Hastings followed with a double to right center field to send home Douglas. Peel hit to center field for the Tigers’ third run, scoring Hastings.

The Tigers finished off the scoring in the fourth with two runs to win 13-0.

Wiese led off the Tigers with a solo homer, her fourth of the year. Hastings singled to left center and sent home Jennie Reeves.

Sneed improved to 7-4 for the season. She sat down eight Cougar batters and walked none. Meadors relieved her in the top of the fourth and struck out two.

LSU had 13 hits for the evening. Perry went two-for-two with two RBI and one run. Hastings was two-for-three with a double. Schuelke had her first double of the season. Crawford also went two-for-three with a triple.
