James, Weiner Named to SEC Academic Honor Roll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — LSU’s Kisha James and Allison Weiner were each named to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll this year, it was announced Tuesday.

A total of 39 student-athletes were named to the 2001 SEC Women’s Basketball Academic Honor Roll Tuesday by SEC Commissioner Roy Kramer. The University of Tennessee topped the list with seven student-athletes on the academic roster. The University of Mississippi was close behind with six honorees, while the University of Kentucky posted five on the list.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must: 1) have a 3.0 grade point average for either the past year (two semesters or three quarters) or a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for their career; 2) be a sophomore or higher in terms of academic classification; and 3) have 24 semester or 36 quarter hours toward a degree. The 2001 SEC Women’s Basketball Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 1999-2000 academic calendar.

The 2001 SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament begins Thursday, March 1 and runs through Sunday, March 4 at ThePyramid in Memphis, Tenn. First round games can be seen on College Sports Southeast, while FOX Sports Net South will televise the second and semifinal rounds with ESPN2 broadcasting the Championship game at 6:00 p.m. (ET).
