BATON ROUGE — The LSU baseball team seeks to extend its four-game winning streak as the third-ranked Tigers play host to Duquesne this weekend in a three-game series in Alex Box Stadium.
Game 1 of the series is set for 7 p.m. Friday, Game 2 will start at 2 p.m. Saturday and Game 3 is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday.
All three games can be heard on the LSU Sports Network (98.1 FM in Baton Rouge ) and on the Internet at www.LSUsports.net. The first game of the series will also be televised live by the Pelican Sports Network (Cable Channel 18 in Baton Rouge).
LSU (6-2) hasn’t lost since Feb. 14, when the Tigers dropped a 7-6, 11-inning decision to Louisiana-Monroe. LSU has since swept Houston in a three-game series, and the Tigers won their fourth game in a row with a 7-3 victory over McNeese State Tuesday night.
Duquesne, a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, plays its 2001season opener Friday against LSU. The Dukes posted a 22-33 overall record last season, including a 10-11 mark in league play.
Duquesne head coach Mike Wilson is the uncle of former LSU infielder Brad Wilson, who played on the Tigers’ 1993 and 1996 national championship teams.
Senior right-hander Jason Scobie (1-1, 6.75 ERA) will start Game 1 for LSU. Scobie posted his first career win as a starter last Saturday versus Houston, as he limited the Cougars to two earned runs on six hits in six innings with four walks and seven strikeouts.
Duquesne will counter Friday with sophomore right-hander Jesse Cramer, who was 7-3 with a 3.20 ERA in 2000.
LSU will start junior left-hander Shane Youman (1-0, 0.71 ERA) in Game 2 and freshman southpaw Lane Mestepey (1-0, 6.52 ERA) in Game 3.
Sophomore right-hander Jim Popp (2-4, 3.32 ERA in 2000) will start for Duquesne on Saturday, and senior left-hander Matt McMunn (3-4, 2.08 ERA in 2000) will take the mound on Sunday. The weekend series marks Duquesne’s second appearance in Alex Box Stadium. The Dukes played two games against LSU in 1996, when the Tigers posted 14-7 and 9-5 victories.
