JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The 25th ranked LSU men’s golf team finished in a tie for third place Tuesday at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship in Jacksonville.
The Tigers finished tied with host North Florida, shooting a final round 286 for a two-day total of 855. The Tigers finished 9-under par for the tournament. The Tigers were one shot behind Florida in second place after 36 holes Monday. The Gators won the tournament, shooting a final round 281, finishing 15-under par. South Carolina, ranked fourth nationally, placed fifth.
Tiger Junior Nathan Goulding continued his hot streak by shooting a final round 71 to finish 5-under par and tie for sixth place. Goulding posted a 69 and 71 on Monday, good for a fourth place tie with two others. Goulding shot consecutive 69s at the Country Club of Louisiana in October, and shot a first round 66 at the Gator Invitational last weekend in Gainesville.
Senior Alan Morgan has been as consistent as Goulding of late for LSU. Morgan was tied for second individually after Monday’s play, but shot a final round 77 to finish in a tie for 17th place. Morgan shot a 70 and a 69 Monday. He has four top-ten finishes this season, along with two individual titles. The 77 was Morgan’s highest score of the season, but he has still finished in the top 20 in all seven of LSU’s tournaments this season.
Sophomore John Humphries finished 27th, shooting a 71 Tuesday and was 2-over par for the tournament. Craig Taylor finished 33rd. Garrett Prather made his first appearance of the spring and tied Morgan for 17th place. Prather shot a 70 in the last round to finish at even par.
The Tigers will next turn their focus to hosting their second home tournament of the season. The Tigers will host the first annual LSU Spring Invitational March 5-6 at the University Club. LSU won the eighth annual Country Club of Louisiana Intercollegiate in October.
