Men’s Golf Travels to Florida For Mercedes-Benz

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The 24th ranked LSU men’s golf team will travel to Jacksonville to take part in the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship Monday.

The Tigers are coming off an eighth place finish in the Gator Invitational last weekend in Gainesville. This is the Tigers second tournament of the spring, with four remaining, highlighted by the first annual LSU Spring Invitational march 5-6 at the University Club.

The Tigers will go with seniors Alan Morgan and Craig Taylor, sophomores John Humphries and Garrett Prather, and junior Nathan Goulding. Prather will be making his first appearance of the spring for the Tigers. LSU head coach Greg Jones hopes his team can rebound from a sloppy performance at the Gator Invitational and maintain its focus in this tournament.

“I feel like the last tournament exposed what we needed to work on, and we did,” said Jones.

The Tigers will not play again after Monday until hosting the Spring Invitational, but Jones wants his team to focus only on the present event.

“I know we cannot think about our home tournament if we want to do well, despite the fact that all the guys are real excited about it,” Jones said.

The Tigers are still ranked 24th in this weeks GOLFWEEK rankings, dropping from 22nd after their eighth place finish at the Gator Invitational.
