Ramaswami Moves to No. 7 in ITA Rankings

BATON ROUGE — Ajay Ramaswami, LSU’s talented men’s tennis player, moved up one spot on Monday as the latest ITA tennis rankings were released.

Ramaswami improved in the rankings despite losing three of his previous four matches.

The Tiger senior from Mumbai, India, has accumulated a 16-7 overall record this season, and is 44-19 during his LSU career. He is currently 2-1 in dual matches and 7-4 versus ranked opponents.

LSU’s junior tennis player, Jessie Smatt, dropped six spots in the rankings to No. 69 despite winning his previous four matches. Smatt possesses a 14-6 overall record.

The LSU men’s tennis team can also boast four-nationally ranked doubles teams. The combination of freshmen Bryan Fisher and Sebastian Rutka is at No. 43, while the Tigers’ pair comprised of Ramaswami and Smatt is ranked No. 46. When combined, Dan Kiernan and Rutka are the 49th-ranked team in the nation and Fisher and Smatt are No. 50.

The LSU men’s tennis team will next be in action on February 15-18, as the Tigers travel to Louisville, Ky., for the ITA Team Indoor Championships.
