BATON ROUGE — LSU softball junior pitcher Britni Sneed was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week as released by the league’s office on Monday following her performance at the Fiesta Bowl Classic hosted by Arizona State.
“Britni did a wonderful job this weekend with two awesome wins over Washington and Arizona State,” said head coach Yvette Girouard. “I am excited for her and the team with such a great start.”
Sneed compiled a record of 3-1 during the Tigers’ opening weekend while leading LSU to victories over No. 4 Washington and No. 6 Arizona State. She opened the season with a 14-2 win against Washington, only allowing the national powerhouse four hits and striking out nine.
On Sunday, Sneed came out on top of a classic pitching dual between herself and Arizona State’s Kristen Voak that lasted eight innings. Sneed held the Sun Devil batters to three hits and struck out four leading the Tigers to a 4-2 win. Sneed picked up her third win in a 9-0 victory against Massachusetts.
Sneed leads the team with an ERA of 1.93 in 25.1 innings pitched with one save over UNLV. She struck out a team high 26 batters. This is the first time in 2001 Sneed has received this award after winning it three times in 2000.
The Tigers (5-1) and Sneed take on in-state opponent McNeese State on Wed., Feb 14, in a double header beginning at 2 p.m. in Lake Charles. LSU returns home for the season opener at Tiger Park on Mon., Feb. 19, against East Tennessee State at 5:30.
