BATON ROUGE (AP) — Marquis Daniels scored 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Auburn to a 76-65 victory over LSU Saturday night.
Auburn (14-9, 4-6 Southeastern Conference) took a quick lead for a sweep of both games this season.
LSU (11-10, 1-9) cut Auburn’s lead to five points, 54-49 with 9:25 left in the game after seven straight points by Jermaine Williams, and a steal and layup by Charlie Thompson.
Auburn hit six 3-pointers in the second half and held off LSU with a 22-11 run down the stretch. It was the biggest margin of victory for Auburn in Baton Rouge in 25 years.
Daniels bettered his 16.5 points-per-game average and his average of 6.3 rebounds. It was a career-best rebounding for Daniels.
Adam Harrington scored 17 points and Scott Pohlman had 15 for Auburn.
Auburn made 18 of 26 from the foul line.
Williams led LSU with a career-high 22 points and eight rebounds. Torris Bright and Collis Temple III each had 12 points.
Auburn outrebounded LSU 40-29.
LSU, which shot 30 percent in the first half, did not score until four minutes into the game when Jermaine Williams made two free throws. LSU stayed close until late in the half trailing by one point 18-17 with 6:50 left in the period.
Auburn went on an 18-10 run over the closing minutes of the half and led 36-27 at the break.
