Lady Tigers Ranked Seventh in AP Preseason Poll

Women’s Basketball Travels to Arkansas

BATON ROUGE — After a four-game homestand, the 12th-ranked LSU women’s basketball team will be back on the road this Sunday at 2 p.m. when it takes on Southeastern Conference-rival Arkansas in Fayetteville.

The game can be heard on the radio in Baton Rouge on WGTE 107.3-FM. It can also be heard on the internet at www.LSUsports.net, LSU’s official website.

LSU enters the game fresh off a 74-58 win over Alabama on Thursday night while the Lady’Backs come in on a bit of a skid, having lost two of their last three. Arkansas fell to No. 6 Florida on Thursday, 75-64. Despite the loss, the LadyBacks have won six of their last eight, including wins over Mississippi State and Vanderbilt.

“Arkansas has been one of the hottest teams in the nation lately,” said LSU coach Sue Gunter. “Ever since they had the loss here, they have been playing extremely well.”

The trip to Fayetteville marks the just the second road game for LSU in a month. The Lady Tigers have played seven of their last eight at home overall, which began with the Arkansas game on Jan. 11 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. LSU won that meeting 61-54 after trailing by as many as eight in the second half.

“We have gotten comfortable playing at home., so this trip will be a tough one,” Gunter said. “Fayetteville is always a very tough place to play. Arkansas fells like it could have won the game in Baton Rouge, so you know it will want to come out and prove that fact on Sunday.”

Marie Ferdinand will lead the Lady Tigers into action with her 20.6 points/game and 3.4 assists/game. DeTrina White will also be playing her second game after sitting out for five games due to a recurring back injury.

Expected to start for LSU is 6-1 sophomore Ke-Ke Tardy (9.5 ppg, 5.2 rpg), 5-11 senior April Brown (11.2 ppg, 4.9 rpg) at the forwards and 5-9 freshman Doneeka Hodges (7.5 ppg, 2.5 rpg), 5-11 senior Angelia Crockett (3.1 ppg, 3.7 apg) and Ferdinand, a 5-9 senior, at the guards.

Arkansas will counter with 5-11 senior Lonniya Bragg (11.7 ppg, 6.5 rpg) and 6-2 freshman Shameka Christon (9.7 ppg, 3.4 rpg) inside with 5-7 junior Amy Wright (6.9 ppg, 5.8 apg), 5-8 senior Wendi Willits (13.4 ppg, 2.9 apg) and 5-8 sophomore Dana Cherry (11.0 ppg, 3.7 rpg) on the perimeter.
