COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The 21st-ranked LSU women’s tennis team dropped its first dual-match of the season on Saturday, as the Lady Tigers were tripped up by the Texas A&M Lady Aggies, 5-2, at the Varsity Tennis Courts here in College Station, Texas.
“This was a very tough match for us today,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “Texas A&M is a good team, their crowd is always very supportive of them, and they just outplayed our team today. I’d like to give them a lot of credit.”
With the loss, the Lady Tigers fell to a 4-1 overall dual-match record, while Texas A&M remained undefeated and improved to 3-0.
In the doubles competition, LSU’s top-doubles pair comprised of Bruna Colosio and Rocio Fantilli defeated the Aggies’ duo of Jessica Roland and Hedburg on court No. 1 by the score of 8-5, but Texas A&M ended up winning the doubles point as the Aggies were victorious on both courts No. 2 and 3.
The Lady Tigers’ 44th-ranked Colosio and senior Mandy Rice accumulated LSU’s only two points in Saturday’s match. Colosio, the Lady Tigers’ double All-American from Cascaval, Brazil, defeated Texas A&M’s Olivia Karlikova, 6-1, 7-5, in No. 1 singles, while Rice topped the Lady Aggies’ Roberta Spencer in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, on court No. 6. Texas A&M swept LSU on singles courts No.’s 2-5.
The 21st-ranked LSU women’s tennis team will next be in action on Wednesday, February 14, as the Lady Tigers will remain on the road to face Houston at 1:30 p.m.
