BATON ROUGE — The Baton Rouge Post Office put its stamp of approval on the LSU Tigers’ 2000 National Championships of baseball and women’s track and field with special commemorative postmarks and envelopes.

Baton Rouge Postmaster Paul Edling presented LSU coaches Skip Bertman and Pat Henry with the second limited-edition framed National Championship envelopes at a press conference held Wednesday morning at the LSU Athletic Administration Building.

“The post office issues special postmarks and commemorative envelopes for special occasions which hold significant meaning in the community,” said USPS Louisiana District Manager Anthony J. Ruda. “Certainly, the LSU Tigers winning two National Championships in the same year is a prized event. We are proud to provide an official postmark and envelope that will be prized by stamp collectors and Tiger fans across the country.”

The baseball commemorative envelope features 2000 College World Series images depicting LSU’s march to its fifth national championship in 10 seasons.

The women’s track and field commemorative envelope features LSU head coach Pat Henry, who last June became only the second coach in NCAA history to reach 20 career titles.

The limited-edition collectible envelopes, protected inside a clear plastic sleeve, sells for $8.50 and became available immediately following the press conference at 10 a.m. (CST) until 4 p.m. at the temporary “LSU Tigers Championship Station” post office located in front of the Maravich Assembly Center marquis on North Stadium Drive.

These will also be available at the Post Office in the LSU Bookstore on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 8-9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Saturday, Feb. 10, the envelopes will be available at Tiger Mania on Highland Road from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Limited-edition framed envelopes autographed by coaches Bertman (300 sets) and Henry (100 sets) will be sold at LSU on Wednesday for $100 each. Beginning Feb. 12, all envelopes and framed sets will be available at the Postal Service’s General Mail Facility located at 8101 Bluebonnet Blvd.
