BATON ROUGE — The 14th-ranked LSU men’s tennis team looks to extend its winning streak versus in-state opponents to 70-straight matches on Tuesday, as the Tigers host the Southeastern Louisiana Lions at 2 p.m. in the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Center.
“We’re looking forward to getting a couple of guys back tomorrow who have been sore for the past couple of days,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown.
“We’ve had some minor injuries on the team, but everyone’s healthy now and will play tomorrow. Southeastern is a good team. They have a solid lineup from top to bottom, and it should be a challenging match.”
The LSU men’s tennis team has not been defeated by an in-state rival since 1973, when Tulane dropped the Tigers, 2-7, in the final dual match of the season. Since that match, LSU has reeled off 69-straight wins versus schools located in the state of Louisiana, including two 7-0 wins on Saturday over Southern and Centenary.
The Tiger tennis team has faced Southeastern seven times in its 76-year existence, and has compiled a 7-0 record against the Lions. In 1999, in the last meeting between the two schools, LSU defeated Southeastern, 7-0, in Baton Rouge.
The Lions enter Tuesday’s match with a 1-1 dual-match record. In its season opener, Southeastern fell on the road to Louisiana at Lafayette, but picked up a victory in its last time out by narrowly defeating Texas-Pan American, 4-3.
With the Tigers’ pair of 7-0 wins over Southern and Centenary on Saturday, LSU comes into its match against Southeastern with an overall record of 2-0. Last season, the Tigers accumulated a 20-6 dual-match record and finished as the No. 12 team in the nation.
The 14th-ranked LSU Tigers will face the Southeastern Louisiana Lions Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
