BATON ROUGE — After wins over Kentucky and Ole Miss this week, the LSU women’s basketball team moved up one spot to No. 10 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll and No. 11 in the Associated Press poll.
The Lady Tigers spent one week outside the 10 after falling to fourth-ranked Georgia on Jan. 14.
The top seven were the same in both polls. Notre Dame moved up to No. 1 as the Irish replaced Connecticut atop the poll and ended UConn’s 30-week run at No. 1, the second longest in history. The Huskies, who lost at Notre Dame 92-76 last week, dropped to second.
Tennessee (18-1) slipped from second to third despite impressive victories over Georgia and Kentucky after losing Tamika Catchings to a torn knee ligament.
No. 4 Duke and No. 5 Georgia traded places, while Purdue stayed was sixth, followed by Iowa State in seventh. Louisiana Tech and Texas Tech were each ranked No. 8 in one poll and No. 9 in the other. Florida rounded out the top 10 in the AP poll with LSU right behind.
Vanderbilt was the fourth Southeastern Conference team in the poll as it was 16th according to the media and 17th according to the coaches. Mississippi State remained in the poll despite three losses during the week, all in conference play.
