NORCROSS, Ga. — The 2001 SEC Coaches’ Indoor Championship at the Racquet Club of the South in Norcross, Ga., continued on Friday with the second and third rounds of singles play, as well as the second round of doubles competition.
LSU juniors Dan Kiernan and 63rd-ranked Jesse Smatt were each tripped up in the second round of singles competition, while the Tigers’ doubles tandem comprised of Smatt and Sanjin Sadovich fared the same fate with a loss in the round of 16.
Kiernan never got on track versus Tennessee’s Mark Parsons and was handed a 6-3, 6-3, defeat Friday morning. Smatt lost to Henrik Toft of Arkansas, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.
In doubles competition, LSU’s team of Smatt and Sadovich fell short, 8-6, to Tennessee’s combination of Casey/Parsons.
