OXFORD, Miss. — The 11th-ranked LSU women’s basketball team returns to action on Sunday at 2 p.m. in a Southeastern Conference battle with Mississippi at the Tad Smith Coliseum in Oxford, Miss.
The game can be heard on the radio on at WTGE 107.3-FM or on the internet at www.LSUsports.net.
LSU (12-5, 3-2 SEC), ranked 11th in the nation, is coming off its biggest conference win in nearly two years as the Lady Tigers handed Kentucky an 87-64 defeat on Thursday night in Baton Rouge. It was the largest margin of victory for LSU in an SEC game since February 1999.
Ole Miss (13-3, 1-2) has won two straight, including a 65-57 victory at Alabama on Thursday. The Lady Rebels opened the season with 13 consecutive wins.
“Ole Miss is very possibly the most improved team in the league this year. They have had a great start to their season and their win over Alabama was very big,” said LSU head coach Sue Gunter. “It is another conference game and every conference game is a battle, especially on the road.”
Last season, LSU scored a 69-59 win over the Lady Rebels in Baton Rouge. The Lady Tigers have won four of the last five meetings, including last season’s win. However, LSU has won in Oxford just once since 1990. Overall, Ole Miss leads the series 18-11 and is 10-4 at home against the Lady Tigers.
LSU is expected to start Marie Ferdinand (20.6 ppg, 3.1 apg), a 5-9 senior, Doneeka Hodges (7.6 ppg, 2.5 rpg), a 5-9 freshman, and 5-11 senior Angelia Crockett (2.4 ppg, 3.6 apg) at the guards, 5-11 senior April Brown (11.0 ppg, 4.7 rpg) and 6-1 sophomore Ke-Ke Tardy (8.6 ppg, 5.1 rpg) at the forwards.
Ole Miss looks to counter with 5-10 junior TaShondrea Moten (4.4 ppg, 4.8 rpg) and 6-1 freshman Tywanna Inmon (9.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg) at the forwards and 5-6 junior Sherika Wright (10.6 ppg, 4.6 apg), 5-8 senior Becky Myatt (12.6 ppg, 4.4 rpg) and 5-10 junior Von Kirk (10.1 ppg, 3.9 rpg) at the guards.
“We match up well with Ole Miss,” said Gunter. “They will play a three-guard line-up without much size on the court, which is exactly the way we will go out there.”
LSU will be without center DeTrina White for the second consecutive game and the eighth overall this season. She has a recurring back injury.
