ATHENS, Ga. — Second-seeded Bruna Colosio advanced to the third round of the 2001 Georgia Invitational on Friday by virtue of a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Isabella King of Georgia Southern at the Lindsay Hopkins Indoors Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Georgia.
Colosio, a native of Cascaval, Brazil, saw her first action since injuring her shoulder at the ITA Clay Court Championships on Sept. 22, 2000. Due to her injury and lack of competition, Colosio fell to No. 44 in the fall ITA rankings after finishing 2000 at No. 6.
She received a first-round bye before defeating King.
After winner her first-round match on Friday, 6-1, 6-3, over Karin Etienne of Georgia State, Amy McIlhaney fell in the second round to Leigh Bradwell of Kentucky, 6-2, 6-1.
Colosio and McIlhaney withdrew from the doubles draw.
Third-round and quarterfinal play continues at the 2001 Georgia Invitational on Saturday morning at the Lindsay Hopkins Indoors Tennis Center.
