BATON ROUGE — After splitting its two games last week with a win over Arkansas followed by a loss to fourth-ranked Georgia, the LSU women’s basketball team fell to 11th in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll and 13th in the Associated Press poll, both announced Monday.
The Lady Tigers had been ranked according to the AP and 10th by the coaches ninth heading into the week following a road win over No. 17 Mississippi State. It was the fourth week this season they had been in the top 10.
The top eight teams in both polls stayed the same for the third straight week Monday, with Connecticut remaining unanimous at No. 1.
Connecticut has been the top choice every week this season. Tennessee held at No. 2 with Notre Dame third. The undefeated Irish upset Connecticut shortly after the polls were released.
Georgia and Duke, both LSU opponents, rounded out the top five. Purdue, who the Lady Tigers beat earlier in the year, was sixth with Iowa State and Louisiana Tech just behind in seventh and eighth.
Texas Tech, who stayed in ninth in the coaches poll, jumped two spots to ninth in the AP poll.
Rutgers was one spot ahead of the Lady Tigers in each poll as they were No. 10 in the coaches poll and 11th in the AP. Florida, who lost to Georgia three days before LSU did, remained 10th in the media poll while falling to 12th in the ESPN/USA Today poll.
Vanderbilt and Mississippi State represented the Southeastern Conference in the polls as well. In all, six SEC teams were ranked by both polls, down from seven last week as Auburn fell out following a pair of losses.
LSU will be in action next against Kentucky on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
