BATON ROUGE — The Tiger Baseball Alumni Foundation will present a celebrity roast of LSU coach Skip Bertman on Friday, Feb. 2, at the Radisson Hotel in Baton Rouge.
The event, entitled “Skipper’s Last Stand,” will include a social hour and silent auction beginning at 6 p.m., followed by a dinner and roast at 7 p.m.
The roast will feature speeches and skits by Bertman? ?s former players, coaches and colleagues, and a video tribute to Bertman’s career. Bertman, entering his 18th year at LSU, is retiring from coaching at the end of the 2001 season.
Among the speakers scheduled to appear is former University of Miami (Fla.) head coach Ron Fraser. Bertman worked under Fraser for eight seasons as an assistant coach before coming to LSU in 1983.
A limited number of roast tickets are available for $50 per person, and they may be obtained by calling the LSU baseball office at 225-578-4148.
The Bertman roast is the highlight of a baseball alumni weekend which also features a game between the 2001 LSU team and former LSU players who are still active in professional baseball. The alumni game will be played on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 1 p.m. in Alex Box Stadium.
The game, originally scheduled for a 7 p.m. first pitch, has been moved to the earlier 1 p.m. start. Past alumni team rosters have included major leaguers Todd Walker, Russ Johnson, Armando Rios, Paul Byrd, Chad Ogea, Ben McDonald, Lyle Mouton and Mike Sirotka.
