Swimming & Diving Opens New Year in Florida

CLEARWATER, Fla. — The LSU men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are set to face both the University of Tampa and Ouachita Baptist on Wednesday in a double-dual meet in Clearwater, Fla.

“The team is really excited about this meet,” said LSU head coach Jeff Cavana. “We’ve had a pretty long layoff over final exams and then the Christmas Holidays, but right now everyone is chomping at at the bit to be able to get out there and compete again.”

The meet marks LSU’s first competition since November 18, when both the men’s and women’s teams finished in third place at the 2000 Nike Cup Invitational.

The Lady Tigers enter Wednesday’s double-dual meet with a record of 3-2. The team recorded earlier non-conference wins over Houston, UL-Monroe, and Wright State. Southeastern Conference foes, Alabama and Arkansas, accounted for the Lady Tigers’ only two losses of the 2000-01 season.

LSU’s men’s swimming and diving team is looking to remain undefeated on the season in Wednesday’s meet versus both Tampa and Ouachita Baptist. The Tigers possess a 3-0 dual-meet record by knotching wins over Alabama, UL-Monroe, and Wright State.

“I have been extremely pleased with the way that our teams have performed so far this season,” Cavana said. “I just hope that all of their hard work and practice over the break will pay off, and that we will be able to post wins tomorrow.”

Wednesday’s meet will be LSU’s first all-time meeting with both the University of Tampa and Ouachita Baptist.

The double-dual meet which matches up the LSU swimming and diving team against the University of Tampa and Ouachita Baptist will begin Wednesday at 3 p.m. (Central time) in Clearwater, Fla.
