BATON ROUGE — Just before 4 p.m. CST on the ninth day of 2000 Peach Bowl sales at LSU, Ticket Office Manager Brian Broussard announced that the 21,000 tickets allotted to LSU had sold out.
Therefore, a huge contingency of LSU fans from around the state and around the nation will watch the Tigers (7-4) take on the 15th-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (9-2) at 5 p.m. EST on Dec. 29, 2000.
“I’d like to thank our fans everywhere for the tremendous support they’ve shown for this program,” said first-year LSU head coach Nick Saban. “It’s very important for the future of this program that interested bowls know that we will show tremendous support and travel well, as we will on Dec. 29 at the Peach Bowl. The support we’ve received is extremely positive and necessary for the future when we try to get into the best possible bowl games for this program.”
Ticket sales began on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 8 a.m. with a school record of more than 10,000 sold on the first day to just season ticket holders.
Twenty-four hours later, before even LSU students had the opportunity to purchase tickets, more than 15,000 had been sold over the phone, fax machine, Internet and in person.
On Thursday, Dec. 7, LSU students quickly nabbed tickets held in a special section of the Georgia Dome reserved for them, as ticket sales reached more than 17,800.
After the first week of sales to season ticket holders and LSU students, less than 1,100 of the 21,000 remained available to the general public.
Finally, on the first day of sales to the general public, the LSU Ticket Office sold its final tickets.
The LSU Athletic Department would like to thank its fans for the tremendous response and support of the football team over the past season and as it travels to Atlanta, Ga., for the 2000 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
LSU returns to practice on Thursday afternoon at 12:30 at the LSU Practice Fields, its first practice since the season finale against Arkansas.
