BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s basketball team, off to a 3-0 start, resume play after a 10-day break Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Maravich Assembly Center.
The Tigers open a three-game home stand by facing Texas Southern of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Tickets for the game are available for $10 and will be available beginning two hours prior to the game at the Assembly Center.
The game will be televised live on College Sports Southeast (Cable Channel 18 in Baton Rouge). The radio broadcast will be carried on the LSU Sports Network (Eagle 98.1 FM in Baton Rouge).
The Tigers haven’t played since a thrilling last second win at Houston, 71-69, on Nov. 28. Since then the team and coaching staff has been trying to juggle practices around concentrated study week and exams on the LSU campus.
The Tigers are expected to start the same lineup it started against Houston, with Torris Bright, Lamont Roland and Collis Temple at guards and Brian Beshara and Ronald Dupree at the forwards. Roland had a career night against Houston, scoring 24 points, while Dupree had his third consecutive double-double to open this season with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Texas Southern comes in 0-5, having played four straight games away from home after losing to Lamar, 78-69, in the season opener. In its last action in a tournament in Minnesota, TSU lost to Coppin State (61-53) and North Carolina A&T (75-57).
Guard Ricky Bennett, a sophomore from Picayune, Miss., leads Texas Southern, averaging 19.2 points per game. Guard Rakin Hollis (11.2 ppg) and forward Chris Miller (13.5 ppg) are the other two starters averaging in double figures.
LSU will also face McNeese State, Wednesday night, and the University of New Orleans, on Dec. 16, during this home stand before traveling West to face the University of Arizona on Dec. 20.
