Lady Tigers 14th, 17th in Latest Polls

BATON ROUGE — The LSU Lady Tigers are ranked No. 17 in the Associated Press women’s basketball poll released Monday. Also, LSU remained in 14th place in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Poll.

LSU (3-3), which has been ranked in the AP Top 25 every week since February, 1999, fell two spots in Monday’s poll despite an 83-62 victory at SMU last Tuesday.

The Lady Tigers’ three losses this season have all come to Top 25 teams — No. 3 Duke (9-0), No. 13 Penn State (3-3) and No. 18 Southwest Missouri State (3-2). LSU will play nine more games this season against Top 25 teams, including No. 2 Tennessee (twice), No. 5 Georgia, No. 6 Purdue, No. 11 Auburn, No. 14 Mississippi State (twice), No. 20 Florida and No. 23 Vanderbilt.

LSU, which has not played since last Tuesday’s win over SMU due to final exams, returns to action at 2 p.m. Sunday as the Lady Tigers play host to Tulane in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. LSU has played five of its first six games away from the PMAC.

Tickets for Sunday’s LSU-Tulane game may be purchased in advance at the LSU ticket office by calling 578-2184.

The Tulane contest is the first of five December home games for LSU, as the Lady Tigers will also play host this month to Mercer (Dec. 12), Prairie View (Dec. 18), Delaware State (Dec. 28) and North Texas (Dec. 30).

LSU’s only road game in the next four weeks is a Dec. 16 clash with No. 6 Purdue in the Boilermaker Blockbuster in Indianapolis. The game, which will be played at Conseco Fieldhouse, is part of a doubleheader which will also feature the Purdue men’s team versus Valparaiso.
