FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The LSU women’s swimming and diving team looks to pick up its first Southeastern Conference win of the season on Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark., versus the Lady Razorbacks.
“It’s going to be a close meet,” said LSU head coach Jeff Cavana. “They have a very good breaststroker and a lot of depth in their freestyle events, but we actually match up well with them and should come away with a victory.”
The Lady Tigers head into Saturday’s SEC dual-meet with a 3-1 overall record and a 0-1 mark versus conference opponents. LSU’s lone loss on the season was at the hands of Alabama in last week’s 173-123 defeat.
Arkansas is set to host both its first home meet of the season and its initial SEC contest of 2000. The Lady Razorbacks have accumulated a 2-2 overall record this season in three dual meets on the road.
The Arkansas women’s swimming and diving team heads into Saturday’s meet versus LSU with a full head of steam after drubbing both North Texas, 121-19, and Houston, 154-77, during last weekend’s road trip. The Lady Razorbacks’ two losses were against Texas A&M, 90.5-49.5, and Missouri, 199-101.
“They (Arkansas) are a very talented team,” Cavana said. “They are far more improved since last season, and I think that they have gained much needed experience and confidence since the last time we faced them.”
In last season’s meeting, the Lady Tigers dominated the meet in Baton Rouge by defeating the Lady Razorbacks, 176-115. It was LSU’s opening meet of the season and helped propel the Lady Tigers to an 8-2 final record and a No. 16 national ranking.
LSU leads the all-time series versus Arkansas, 9-1, and have never been beaten by the Lady Razorbacks in Fayetteville. The Lady Tigers’ lone loss to Arkansas took place in 1992 in Baton Rouge, 124-119.
