BATON ROUGE — Thirteen members of this year’s LSU football team earned a spot on the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll, the league office announced on Friday.
Heading the list of LSU players named to the squad were senior fullback Tommy Banks with a 3.427 grade point average in microbiology, sophomore linebacker Trev Faulk with a 3.2 in business administration, freshman offensive lineman Rodney Reed with a 3.8 in business administration and Louis Williams with a 3.785 in pre-medicine.
Banks, Faulk and Williams were all members of the Verizon Academic All-District team as well.
Other LSU representatives on the squad include: freshman punter Donnie Jones with a 3.0 in business administration, junior placekicker Kris Kessler with a 3.069 in zoology, junior defensive end Kyle Kipps with a 3.0 in marketing, sophomore placekicker Chad Lewis with a 3.523 in kinesiology, senior cornerback Oliver Smith with a 3.461 in political science, junior defensive tackle Charles Thomas with a 3.343 in kinesiology, junior offensive lineman Bob Wynne with a 3.909 in political science, sophomore deep snapper Wendell York with a 3.6 in accounting and sophomore offensive lineman John Young with a 3.212 in kinesiology.
To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must have a 3.0 grade point average over the past year or for their career and must be a sophomore or higher in academic classification. The 2000 SEC Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 1999-2000 academic year.
