BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s basketball team, off two strong wins at home last week, takes to the road for the first time this season Tuesday night to face the University of Houston.
The game on the Guy Lewis Court at Hofheinz Pavilion is set for a 7 p.m. tipoff. The game will be broadcast on radio on the LSU Sports Network (Eagle 98.1 FM in Baton Rouge) and televised in regionally on College Sports Southeast (Cable Channel 18 in Baton Rouge). The Tigers (2-0) had a sluggish start against Norfolk State on Saturday, but was able to get things going midway through the half en route to a 90-62 win over the Spartans to up the young season record to 2-0. Houston (2-2) was a 73-59 winner in its first home game of the season Saturday against Southwest Texas State to even its mark to 2-2 under first year head coach Ray McCallum.
McCallum came over after seven seasons at Ball State where he compiled a 126-76 record.
For the second straight game, LSU had four players in double figures, led by Brian Beshara with 25 points. Collis Temple III came off the bench to get 19, while Ronald Dupree added 15 and Jermaine Williams 10. Dupree had his second straight double-double with 13 rebounds to go with the 15 points.
LSU shot 47.7 percent for the game, paced by a 16-of-27 (59.3%) effort in the second half.
LSU is just 2-6 all-time against the Cougars, having split in the first two games of this series renewal, with LSU winning at the Assembly Center in 1997 and Houston, under then first-year Coach Clyde Drexler, taking the return game in 1998, 67-55. This is the first of another home-and-home series with the Cougars expected to come to the Assembly Center early in the 2001-2002 season.
This will be the final game for the Tigers until after the concentrated study days-final exam period which runs through Dec. 9. LSU returns to action at home on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. against Texas Southern.
