Tigers Set To Face Norfolk State at Home

BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s basketball team, off a decisive 92-49 opening night victory Monday night against Louisiana-Monroe, hopes to sustain the effort in its second home game Saturday night against Norfolk State.

The 7 p.m. game is set for the Maravich Assembly Center and tickets are available for $10 each and will be available beginning two hours prior to game time at the Maravich Assembly Center box office.

The game will be broadcast on the LSU Sports Network and on the Internet at www.lsusports.net. The game will also be televised in the Baton Rouge area on a one-day tape delay basis on Sunday on KTTE-TV, Channel 11, at 2 and 7:30 p.m.

LSU’s defense against the Indians got the Tigers off to a quick start as they jumped to a big early advantage and coasted to a 39-17 halftime bulge. LSU had 22 assists, just seven turnovers and 18 steals. It was the fewest turnovers for a Tiger team since 1996 and the most steals in a game since 1995.

“We created some scoring opportunities out of the defense,” LSU coach John Brady said. “We defended particularly well in the perimeter and when they did throw it down to the post we did our post-to-post trapping well. Especially early in the game it worked well for us. From a defensive standpoint, we were able to never let them get into any kind of rhythm on offense.”

Four LSU players were in double figures with Ronald Dupree and Torris Bright both equaling career highs with 21 points each. Lamont Roland had 16 and Collis Temple 12. Bright had nine assists and Dupree had 11 rebounds, his second career double-double.

Norfolk State is coming in with a 0-1 record after losing Tuesday night to the University of New Orleans in Lakefront Arena, 83-56.

Terrence Winston was the only player in double figures for the Spartans with 21 points on 7-of-9 field goal shooting, including 3-of-5 from beyond three-point range.

LSU will take to the road following the Norfolk State game, traveling to Houston Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. game with the University of Houston. Following that the Tigers will be on a 10-day break for concentrated study period and final exams prior to returning to play at home on Dec. 9 against Texas Southern University.
