HOUSTON — The LSU volleyball team dropped a tough three-game decision to Southern Methodist, 15-10, 15-9, 15-13, in the first round of the Houston Tournament on Friday evening.
The loss drops the Tigers to 15-16 on the year with one match to play. SMU moves to 14-16 on the year. LSU will play in the consolation match on Saturday at 12 p.m.
“We need to come out and leave everything on the court (Saturday),” said LSU coach Fran Flory. “For our program to keep going in the right direction we need to come away with a win and at least a .500 record. This team can add to its SEC Tournament finish with a win tomorrow and leave its mark on this program.”
The Tigers are fresh off an appearance in the Southeastern Conference Tournament runner-up finish. They lost to 10th-ranked Florida in the championship match.
