Volleyball Travels to Houston To Face SMU

HOUSTON — The LSU volleyball team will face SMU on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the first round of the Houston Tournament, which will be the final tournament of the season for the Tigers.

LSU (15-15) is fresh off a second place finish in the Southeastern Conference Tournament that was held last weekend in Gainesville, Fla. The Tigers upset SEC Western Division Champion Alabama and Alabama before 10th-ranked Florida ousted LSU.

Leading the Tigers into the Houston tournament will be middle blockers Meagan Davis and Lauren Cuyler. Davis has been named second-team All-SEC this year while Cuyler earned All-Tournament team honors a weekend ago.

Davis is currently leading the team in attack percentage with a .350 clip, which ranks among the top five in school history. She is also second on the team in kills (3.08/game) and blocks (1.05/game).

Since moving to middle blocker midway through the season, Cuyler has been LSU’s leader at the net. She led the SEC in blocks/game this year with 1.55/game as well as leading all players in the statistical category during the tournament last weekend.

The other first-round match will feature Texas-San Antonio and host Houston. The consolation will be played on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the championship scheduled for 3 p.m.
