BATON ROUGE — With one final glance to the past, the future of LSU men’s basketball begins the 2000-2001 season Monday night at 7 p.m. at the Maravich Assembly Center against Louisiana-Monroe.
Tickets for the game will be on sale prior to the game at the Maravich Assembly Center box office for $10.
The game will be broadcast across the state of Louisiana on the LSU Sports Network (WDGL, Eagle 98.1 FM in Baton Rouge) and on the Internet at The game will also be televised on a one-day tape delay basis in the Baton Rouge area by the Pelican Sports Network (Cable Channel 11 in Baton Rouge) on Tuesday at 1 and 7 p.m.
The Tigers and the LSU fans will start the evening by remembering last year’s SEC Western Division and SEC Championship team which had a 28-6 record by dropping banners from the catwalk of the Assembly Center signifying both the division and overall championship season.
But from there, John Brady‘s new group of Tigers will have to begin work on a new season of games, minus two NBA draftees (Stromile Swift, Jabari Smith) and this year’s expected starting center (Brad Bridgewater), who recently underwent ACL surgery.
The Tigers won both their exhibition games and are expected to start a three-guard lineup of sophomores Torris Bright and Collis Temple III, along with senior Lamont Roland. The two starting forwards are expected to be Brian Beshara and Ronald Dupree.
Louisiana Monroe won its opening game at Monroe on Saturday night, downing Samford, 69-63. Kevin Paige was the high scorer for the Indians with 19 points, while Brian Lubeck had 14 points and 12 rebounds and 7-2 center, Wojciech Myrda had 11 points and 10 blocked shots.
LSU will open with two games at home before going on the road as the Tigers will take on Norfolk State at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Assembly Center. The Tigers go to Houston for a game with the Cougars on Nov. 28.
