CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The LSU men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams both finished in third place Saturday at the 2000 Nike Cup Invitational here in Chapel Hill, N.C.
“I am pleased with the way we competed this weekend,” said LSU head coach Jeff Cavana. “I think that both our men and women made some major strides, and I am looking forward to building on the experience that we gained here.”
The Lady Tigers finished Saturday’s competition in the 2000 Nike Cup in third place behind North Carolina and Virginia Tech. The hometown North Carolina Tarheels were victorious for the second-straight season with 1,161.50 points, while Virginia Tech ended with 443 total points. LSU accumulated 394 points during the weekend.
The LSU men’s swimming and diving team also finished in third place. North Carolina won the 2000 Nike Cup Invitational with 1,113 points and the University of Pittsburgh placed second with 842 total points. The Tigers ended the weekend with 609 points.
“The men really impressed me this week,” Cavana said. “They never gave up and they actually gained some ground today. The women did well, but once again our lack of depth hurt us.”
The LSU swimming and diving teams will next be in action Dec. 15 as they host the Cajun Diving Classic.
