GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The LSU volleyball team will square off with Southeastern Conference Western Division champion Alabama in the first round of the SEC Tournament on Friday at 6:30 CST.
The Tigers are the tournament’s No. 7 seed after finishing the year with a 6-9 conference record as part of a 13-14 overall mark. Alabama earned the No. 2 seed by winning the West with an 11-4 league mark. Two of those wins were over LSU.
“We have a tough challenge ahead in Alabama,” said LSU coach Fran Flory. “But they are also trying to beat a team for the third time in a season, which is always tough, so we feel confident.”
In each of the previous meetings between the two this season, the Crimson Tide took four-game victories. However, the Tigers had chances to win as they held leads in crucial games in each of the two matches only to have Alabama come back.
“We gave away too many chances in the other two matches against Alabama,” Flory said. “Each time, we had plenty of opportunities to win, but could not execute well enough to pull out a victory.”
LSU is looking for its first SEC Tournament win since a first-round victory over Tennessee in 1993. The Tigers have met the Crimson Tide only once in conference tournament play with LSU claiming a 3-1 win in 1990.
