BATON ROUGE — The LSU football team held its second practice this week Wednesday afternoon at the LSU practice facility. The Tigers are coming off a road win against the Ole Miss Rebels snapping a 10-game losing streak away from Baton Rouge.
LSU will have a bye this week before traveling to Little Rock to face SEC rival Arkansas Friday, Nov. 24.
“What we try to do on bye weeks is, this week we only had two practices, one in shells yesterday and one today in pads, is really work on fundamentals,” head coach Nick Saban said. “We’ll look at some cut ups, look at some films, and look at some things to try to improve what we feel we are not doing as well as we need to. So it is really to focus on our team and what we need to do to get better.”
The Tigers are next scheduled to practice Friday afternoon to begin preparations for the Razorbacks. Despite practicing twice this week, Saban has yet to begin implementing his plan for the Razorbacks.
“I believe that you can work too long on an opponent,” Saban said. “The players get used to doing certain things that you do during the course of the week relative to when we work on third down, when we work on the red area, when we work on what blitzes and pressures we are going to use. I think if you drag that out for too long, they can get bored with it all.”
QUOTES FROM LSU HEAD COACH NICK SABAN
(On the Auburn/Alabama game) — “There’s nothing we can do about that game. We don’t have any control over it. What I like to focus on with our players is that we have goals and objectives that we can accomplish and that we can control, and the things that we can do to control those things are the things we need to focus on.”
“Arkansas is a challenge for us. Come Friday we will begin working and preparing for them. That’s going to be our main focus and our main interest. I know it’s difficult for everyone not to be interested in some things that are happening outside of here, but we need to focus on the things that we have some control over.”
“There are a lot of goals that we can accomplished based on that football game. And that’s the most important thing to me, it’s the most important thing to us, and it’s the most important thing that I think we need to focus on and worry about right now.’
