Swimming & Divings Takes On Alabama

Men’s and Women’s Diving Teams Travel to Nike Cup

BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams left for Chapel Hill, N.C., on Wednesday and begin competition in the 2000 Nike Cup Invitational at 9 a.m. CST on Thursday.

“It is a huge honor to be invited to this competition,” said LSU head coach Jeff Cavana. “We will be competing against some of the top teams in the nation, and it will be good to see where we stand as a team.”

The 2000 Nike Cup Invitational is being held at Koury Natatorium on the campus of North Carolina University and will include the swimming and diving programs from 15 of the nation’s top universities.

The teams competing in the 2000 Nike Cup Invitational are North Carolina, the University of Connecticut, Duke, East Carolina, George Washington, James Madison, North Carolina State, UNC-Wilmington, Old Dominion, the University of Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Toledo, Virginia Tech, the University of Richmond, and LSU.

Last season, the Tigers and Lady Tigers each finished second in the three-day event. The home-town favorite North Carolina Tarheels finished in first place in both the men’s and women’s competitions.

The qualifying events of the 2000 Nike Cup Invitational will begin at 9 a.m. (Central Time) Thursday with the final rounds starting at 5 p.m. in Chapel Hill, N.C.
