Tigers Take on Angolan Team in Final Exhibition

BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s basketball team plays its final exhibition tuneup Monday night at 7 p.m. in the Maravich Assembly Center.

The opposition this time will be a foreign team, the Angola Atletico Petroleos De Luanda team.

Tickets for the game will be available beginning at the Assembly Center beginning two hours prior to game time for $10 each. LSU opens its 2000-2001 regular season on Monday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m. against Louisiana-Monroe.

The Angolan club team is not the same team the Tigers faced twice in the team’s August tour of Italy. That team was the Angolan Olympic team which would go on to take part in the Sydney Summer Olympics.

The club team has struggled in three games against college competition, losing to TCU, 108-44, on Nov. 6, 95-50 to Louisiana Monroe on Nov. 9, and, 86-54 to SMU on Saturday in Dallas. The Angola team had two players in double figures for the first time in the SMU loss as Victor de Carvalho had 16 and Edmar Vitoriano had 13.

The Tigers are coming off a 72-69 win over the Global Sports team of former college and pro players as Collis Temple led LSU with 20 points. Lamont Roland had 17 and Jermaine Williams added 13 as LSU rallied from a six-point halftime deficit to get the victory.

The Tigers will be looking to improve on several things in the second exhibition contest, as shooting just 38.7 percent from the field and 51.3 percent from the free throw line (20-of-39).
