BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The LSU volleyball team placed 12 players on the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll this year, the conference office announced Monday.
The Tigers improved on their total from last year, in which they had a conference-leading nine players, by three. Alabama joined LSU in leading the conference with 12 players on the honor roll.
“Our goal is to have everyone that plays volleyball to be a part of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and I think we are very close to having every single member of our team earn that honor,” said LSU coach Fran Flory. “That is a tough thing to do with balancing athletics with academics and us being represented by 12 team members is a great tribute to the dedication that these kids have in the classroom.”
To be eligible to make the Honor Roll, a player must be a sophomore academically with a 3.0 grade-point average. Of LSU’s 15-woman roster, 13 players were eligible.
Earning the honor for the Tigers was Meghan Bedford, Lyndsey Benson, Christy Carr, Lauren Cuyler, Meagan Davis, Jennifer Hampton, Katie Kubena, Jill Lytle, Lauren O’Connor, Addie Prewitt, Claudia Rodriguez and Rachel Vogt.
On the court, it was announced by the conference that LSU will be seeded seventh and face second-seeded Alabama in the first round of the SEC Tournament on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Gainesville, Fla.
