Volleyball Signs Two in First Fall Signing Period

BATON ROUGE — The LSU volleyball team took full advantage of the first fall signing period for the sport by signing two high school prospects on Wednesday.

Beth Cowley of Louisville, Ky., and Regan Hood of Carrollton, Texas, each signed with the Tigers on Wednesday.

Cowley is the starting setter for Assumption High School, the nation’s top-ranked high school team. Assumption won its sixth consecutive Kentucky State Championship this season and finished ranked in the national top 10 for the sixth year in a row as well. Cowley also competes for Kiva Club and will come to LSU as one of the top 50 recruits in the nation

“Beth is the most heralded and decorated recruit we have signed here in three years,” said LSU coach Fran Flory. “She brings a great deal of experience to the program as well as a winning attitude that comes with winning state and national championships.”

Hood, who plays for Bishop Lynch High School and North Dallas Club, will bring a big, physical presence to the LSU line-up with her 6-2 frame.

“Regan is a very physically gifted athlete that can have an immediate impact on our team,” said Flory. “She is someone who has developed late that will improve greatly as she continues to play.”

The Tigers compete in the final weekend before the SEC Tournament this weekend with two matches against Arkansas. LSU needs one win to earn a berth in the conference tournament, which takes the top eight teams in the SEC.
