BATON ROUGE — The LSU Lady Tigers signed junior college prospect Aiysha Smith of Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas on Tuesday.
“She is an outstanding player and we are very pleased she decided to come with us,” said Gunter of the 6-2 post player. “She will be a quality SEC caliber player for us.”
Smith, a Detroit, Mich., native, originally signed with St. John’s out of high school, but decided to transfer to junior college after one season.
“She was somebody we had watched in high school and really kept track of after she left St. John’s,” said Gunter.
LSU filled a size related void on its team with the signing of Smith. The Lady Tigers are one of the nation’s smallest teams with only one player over six feet tall. They will be looking to replace forward April Brown, as well as guards Marie Ferdinand and Angelia Crockett with this year’s recruiting class.
